“She plays the violin like a concertmaster in a professional orchestra. “Hwi-On has brought the level of musicianship in our music program to the highest standard possible,” says Joseph Rutkowski, instrumental music teacher at North High. In addition to her selection for the Piano Showcase, she has also been named as an Alternate violinist for the 2021 All-State Music Ensembles. Hwi-On is a talented musician who plays multiple instruments across several performing groups at North High, including Chamber Music, Symphonic Band, Symphony Orchestra, and the Musical Pit Orchestra. There were 95 applicants for this year’s showcase and only 12 musicians were chosen for this prestigious honor. Each conference day is concluded with the famous “Scores & Loadings” gathering where communication continues in a less formal manner.North High School junior Hwi-On Lee has been selected to perform in the New York State School Music Educators Association (NYSSMA) Piano Showcase, part of the 2021 All-State Winter Conference. The social and cultural program is what makes the conference unique. During seven previous conferences held in Russia since 2002, WSC has been recognized internationally for its solid scientific content and intensive social program. The main objectives of Drushbametrics were dissemination and popularization of chemometrics in Russia, as well as establishment of a bridge connecting Russian scientists to the international chemometric community. The conference was created as a part of the Drushbametrics project established about 10 years ago by a small group of enthusiasts from Russia and Scandinavia. WSC is the first and the only conference on chemometrics in Russia. Since 2005 special prizes to the best poster and the best talk presented by young(er) participants have been awarded. Students’ research works neighbor presentations of experienced chemometricians.
Traditionally, WSC is very friendly to young scientists and those beginning to carve their way in data analysis. The conference brings together both academic scientists and industrial experts, providing many opportunities for personal contacts and fruitful discussions. From the beginning, the organizers have attempted to achieve, and hopefully attained, an optimal balance between theoretical aspects of data analysis and their practical applications.
